My first clue to my love of paper was while wrapping
gifts at Christmas. And when I first saw a handmade book as an art
My pieces are a reflection of my experiences and tend
toward personal narratives, often sprinkled with humor. Each one
is designed so that every aspect of it, including shape, images,
texture, decorative elements and paper
choice blends together into a single coordinated experience that unfolds
and builds upon itself. Each material, each typeface, each bead or
found object contributes to the total visual feast.
I blend the natural world into my pieces with authentic representations such as twigs, leaves driftwood, beach glass, and sea shells. I am drawn to memorabilia and all manner of odd trinkets to help me express my visions. I love words the most. Henry David Thoreau captured the possibilities when wrote "A written word is the choices of relics. It is something at once more intimate with us and more universal than any other work of art. It is the work of art nearest to life itself." I hope my work is intimate and direct from my heart, too. Jackie Gardener 707 785-1039 |
