Her paintings reflect the modern abstraction of Hans Hofmann, the color fields of Wolf Kahn, and the qualities of American Impressionism and Abstract Expressionism.
After completing a baccalaureate degree she continued art studies at the Kala Institute in Berkeley, Rocky Vine Press in Santa Rosa, Brinker Ink in Napa, California, and three more years of college art courses.
The Moon Catcher Studio includes several easels, work and display tables, print bins, flat files, a full-sized etching press, a table-top Italian press, and a well-lit gallery for visitors. When Barbara cranks the star-wheel of her 1380-pound etching press to create an original print, the feeling of the mechanical movements are reminiscent of a thousand year old device designed to make permanent impressions on paper, cloth and clay, to express language, both written and composed with imagery. It is down to earth, organic, and ancient. Her work is exhibited in galleries, museums, and corporations. It has also been exhibited through the National Arts Program and received numerous jurors awards, including 'Best in Show.'
