Nicole Ours is a third generation artist - and a third generation
teacher. Dr.Tome Pasto first encouraged her to paint in oils. Japanese
brush painting under the tutelage of Dr. Chuira Obata enhanced the focus
and flow of Nicole's work. The renowned Ralph Ducasse was her mentor at
Mills College, from which she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine
Arts and a minor in Art History.
After several years as a commercial artist, Nicole's other legacy
came to the fore and she became a teacher. For almost thirty years, most
of her time and energy were given to family and her career as a special
educator. Portraits of family and students, occasional still
lifes and landscapes in colored pencil, pastel or watercolor were her
artistic outlets.
Retirement to The Sea Ranch in 1999 with completion of her studio in
2000 allowed her to recommit to art. She has exhibited in several venues
in Sonoma and Marin counties, building a following of collectors from
throughout the country. Although she moves to Santa Rosa in June, 2002,
Nicole's love of coastal beauty will bring her back often to paint.
During the 2002 Studio Discovery Tour, Nicole will share space in
the
studio of Pat Neth.
Emotional and sensory responses to deeply observed elements of nature
bloom in Nicole's light filled, richly colored paintings. Whatever the
subject, whether painted on site or in the studio, Nicole's painterly
canvases are a vital blend of inspiration, observation and discovery.
