Madeline Kibbe is a textile artist who has made Point Arena her home for
the last 14 years. Specializing in hand painted silk, she creates
scarves,
neckties, and lamps for galleries in SanFransisco, New York as well as
Healdsburg, Petaluma, and Mendocino. She also participates in several
annual craft shows . These silks are one of a kind , colorful and
playful.
Her work is influenced by the Scandinavian textile tradition and reflects
an appreciation of the Japanese aesthetic. A rafting trip down the Grand
Canyon last year has resulted in several new designs for 2003. She was
very pleased to recently have one of her kites exhibited at the
Smithsonian
Institute this spring. This will be her first Studio Discovery tour.
Madeline was born in Connecticut and graduated with a BFA in painting
from
Rhode Island School of Design in 1988. The switch to silk happened by
chance, about eight years ago and it was immediately obvious that she had
found the medium that would truly inspire her.
