Nicole Our's art career began when she was just a child, continued with
Dr. Torme Pasto's encouragement to paint in oils, gained focus and flow
from Dr. Chuira Obata and grew under
mentorship from Ralph Ducasse as she earned her B.A.in Fine Arts at
Mills College.
Commercial art, then her careers as a special educator, author, parent
and grandparent required
that she steal time for fine art, and then, only using media less
demanding of time and space than
oil paint.
Nicole's return to painting in oil when her Sea Ranch studio was
completed in 2000 marked the beginning of her evolution as a mature
artist. The rich and subtle beauties of the North Coast, and now the
land and vineyards near her new home in Santa Rosa provide constant
inspiration for both plein aire and studio paintings. Portraits of
people, animals and plants, as well as still lifes engage Nicole's
creativity as well.
The intensity of her creative process and study of the work of master
artists of today and the past have propelled Nicole's work to ever
greater expressiveness and power. Color remains
a hallmark of Nicole's paintings. Her passionate respect and enjoyment
of the subjects she paints brings resonance and depth. As her skills
and vision grow, her drawing, values, edges, brushwork and composition
merge into paintings which pulse with life, glow with beauty and
share her love of paint-and life.. with all who enjoy her work.
Nicole's paintings are found in collections throughout the country-and
will be shown during the 2003 Studio Discovery Tour at the studio of
Barbara Kelly.
