Barbara Kelley was born in Anchorage, Alaska, and then lived in the
equally scenic states of Washington, Ohio, New Mexico, and California.
These environments provided her with visual inspiration which is expressed
in her paintings, drawings, monotypes and monoprints. She applies the
building blocks of composition, form, color and texture to her initial
interpretation (visual reading) of a scene. As the work evolves the final
outcome, may range from abstract to realism, but always the artists'
interpretation. Barbara is also a skilled painter, producing oil and
acrylic paintings at her second residence and art studio at Sea Ranch.
Barbara is an active member of the Sonoma County community of
printmakers at The Print Studio, and is a member of the California Society
of Printmakers, the Berkeley Arts Center Association, and the National
Museum of Women in the Arts. She is currently the Membership Vice
President for the North Coast Artists' Guild, which represents artists
from the coastal areas of Jenner, in Sonoma County, through the Little
River area in Mendocino, California.
She creates original monotypes by applying printmakers' inks on a
zincor Plexiglas plate, using brayers or brushes. She designs the picture
with various tools or paints a picture with brushes, or combines the two
techniques. She then moves the plate onto a printing bed of a
hand-cranked printing press, places a dampened sheet of heavyweight paper
over the plate, cranks the plate through the press, transferring the image
from the plate onto the paper - creating an original, one-of a kind print.
In addition to the Studio Discovery Tour, planning for new shows and
exhibits being scheduled for 2004/2005 includes: The Airport Club and The
Fountain Grove Country Club, both located in Santa Rosa, California, Plaza
Arts Gallery in Healdsburg, California, and several private companies
located in Washington and Arizona.
You may view her work at the North Coast Artists' Guild Studio
Discovery Tour website or contact her directly to arrange a visit to her
studio or to review her portfolio. 707-785-9429 or 707-528-3553 or
