"If I had to put it all into nine words they would be - 'Form is
shaped by the spirit that inhabits it' - a quote for which I've lost
the source," says Jacquetta Nisbet.
For over half a century Nisbet has explored the Native weaves
of North and South America - particularly the warp-patterned weaves of
the Andes and the tapestry languages of Peru and the Navajo. Now she
translates these techniques into her own creative works and teaches
workshops and seminars throughout the West. She acts as consultant on
Peruvian weave structures for the M. H. de Young Museum in San
Francisco, and on Native American weaving for the Department of
Anthropology, Santa Rosa J.C. Her two instructional videos
"Supplementary Warp-Patterning on the Inkle Loom" and "Tubular Woven
Finishes: Backstrap Loom Techniques" are classics in their field.
With a Scottish Diploma in Fine Art from Edinburgh she
continues to realize "form by the spirit that inhabits it" in her
drawings, paintings and tapestries.
