Jim is a full-time artist blacksmith on the Sonoma Coast specializing
in hand forged home accessories.
Although commision design is matched to a client's desired style, from
traditional mortise and tenon joinery, simple lined japanese designs and
modern, Jim especially likes to use natures free form shapes in his work.
The use of replicating nature to fill negative spacer begins with long
walks in the woods during the varying seasons during which samples of
growth are brought back to the shop. Each is studied in shape, texture and
growth, then taken apart to see how they grow. Those shapes are then
reproduced in iron and shaped into items such as fireplace screens, hand
rails, gates, tables, light fixtures, bed head and foot boards and more.
