I will paint on (almost) anything!
My artistic training was fairly classical and I have always been drawn
to the tradition of Italian Renaissance wall painting. As in those times,
I believe any object of use or contemplation is fair game for being
painted, carved, draped or otherwise decorated. Hence, my car (see image
below).
I was exposed to art early through my mother, an artist, and father, a
poet and artist's agent, and then in Europe, during a year abroad as a
student in Belgium. After undergraduate study at Rice University, in
Houston, I continued on there to earn a BFA (in painting) and an MA (in
Art History with a focus on Venetian Renaissance Portraiture). I love
drawing and painting on large surfaces, whether big canvases or walls,
both interior and exterior. I use a lot of pattern and decorative elements
in my work, which combined with the emphasis on classical drawing and
realistic form, give it a quality of magic illusionism.
The Angels you will see flying out from the front of my house are a recent
inspiration. I think you will agree that each of them has a unique
presence and beneficial influence over the space she occupies. It is my
desire to create more of these nearly life-size figures that recall
Balinese crib angels, both for the interior of homes with cathedral
ceilings or for the exterior of the house or garden.
In addition to the large-scale works pictured here, I also have available
smaller paintings, signed reproductions, beautiful Letterpress prints and
other items at affordable prices.
I feel particularly blessed in having found such a perfect place to be
here in our Northern California coastal world, and look forward to
welcoming you into my home!
